The Wonderful pomegranate variety features colorful, orange-red flowers and dense, bushy growth habit that make pomegranate an attractive ornamental in any landscape. The pomegranate is more commonly grown as a bushy shrub, but can be trained as a small tree. The leaves are deciduous, usually glossy and dark green. The fruit is rich in antioxidants and may be yellow to bright red in color and up to about 4 inches in diameter. The rind is smooth and leathery with a persistent, tubular sepal at the flowers end. The many seeds are surrounded by a pink to purplish or crimson pulp. It is considerably more cold hardy than citrus; some can tolerate temperatures as low as 10 degrees. The tree is ornamental and makes a beautiful addition to your yard or as an indoor tree. They are best kept in a well draining soil such as a Cactus or Citrus Blend. Pomegranates are deciduous trees so they shed their leaves in the fall after harvest. They are also better kept in full sun for best fruit production. The Wonderful Pomegranate can be planted in zones 8-11 and are best kept as a container tree in zones 5-7. How to Grow Most all edible plants grow well in Full Sun but a little shade won't hurt. Pomegranate Plants can be planted in most healthy soils in normal pH range.
