3. Iv (180 Gram)

Description

Anyone who gives the dull name 'Four' to their rock album must either be very sure of success or already have resigned. The group Toto may well have experienced such extremes as there was an enormous cleft between their amazing financial success and the crushing negative opinions voiced by the critics. Billboard criticised the superficial lyrics as being void of any sort of emotional weight while the Los Angeles Times aimed their fire at the musicians themselves, slamming them as dubious artists with a commercialised mentality. To this Toto struck back with their fourth album, which was an unparalleled success and brought them six Grammy awards. For a whole ten months 'Africa' reigned at Number 1 on the charts and together with the super-hit 'Rosanna' the two smash hits were a constant presence, backed up by a collection of impressive rock classics. A trip to the record shop is all that is needed to prove that this is unlikely to change in the near future. The bright red cover with its depiction of a sword will catch your eye, as though saying: It's got to be the Fourth!. While already having street credibility due to their years supporting a plethora of gold and platinum artists (Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Chicago), the debut album from Toto simply titled Toto catapulted the power quintet into major arena rock status as they accumulated a ton of hit singles and gold and platinum album awards on this 1979 masterpiece.

Upon its release, Toto flew into the upper rungs of the rock and pop music charts with the power rocker Hold The Line. Filled with its catchy hooks, brilliant vocal and guitar work from maestro Steve Lukather, and the familiar Bobby Kimball high energy lead vocals, this amazing debut single has become a classic rock staple. Adding the stellar piano work from David Paich and Steve Porcaro, the song truly resonated with its huge audience, and broke wide open the importance of both the band and their great new album.

Produced by Toto (David Paich, Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, Bobby Kimball, David Hungate) Toto was a watershed venture for the band as its ten champion tunes have all truly stood the test of time. Aside from the massive top charting Hold The Line there were more classics abound like the follow up power rocker I ll Supply The Love, the soulful fare of Georgy Porgy featuring the great Cheryl Lynn on vocals, plus even more brillant album tracks like Angela, Rockmaker and Manuela Run.

Friday Music is no stranger to the important musical catalogs of Toto, therefore, it is with much honor to continue the Friday Music Toto 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with our latest installment with their history making debut album Toto. Impeccably mastered by Joe Reagoso (Toto/Boz Scaggs/Hall & Oates/Doobie Brothers) and pressed at R.T.I., this brilliant masterpiece is now finally available in the audiophile vinyl domain.

For this special limited edition release, we are also including for the first time, the original album cover artwork in a gatefold format, which will truly enhance your hours of listening enjoyment.

Stay tuned to Friday Music as we will be releasing more Toto classic recordings on both 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl and Remastered Compact Discs.

7. Mindfields

Description

Mind?elds is the 10th studio record by Toto, as originally released in 1999. The album saw the return of original Toto singer Bobby Kimball, who had left the band once their breakthrough album Toto IV [MOVLP554] was released back in 1982. Kimball and axe slinger Steve Lukather share lead vocals, dividing these duties approx 60/40. As always with Toto, the playing is tight. What else would one expect from these veteran musicians? Apart from Lukather and Kimball, Toto in '99 consisted of David Paich (keyboards), Mike Porcaro (bass) and Simon Phillips (drums, who replaced original drummer Jeff Porcaro after his fatal heart attack in 1992). The record was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Engineered Album, Non Classical. 9. Toto XIV

Description

TOTO XIV is the band s first album of new material since 2006 s Falling In Between. However, the band personally considers the new album to be the true follow-up to TOTO IV, which made the band global superstars. The album is a realized vision three plus decades in the making, exhibiting world-class musicianship, masterful arrangements, topical lyrical commentary, and melodies that the collective genius of Lukather, Paich, Porcaro, Williams and their assembled band-mates bring to life. The band s current line-up includes original members Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro and sees the return to the fold of original bass player, David Hungate. Joseph Williams (singer on The Seventh One and Fahrenheit ) returns to handle lead vocals, while Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting) now sits behind the drumkit.
