This comprehensive setup includes one enhanced 11 Watt Short-Wave/Long-Wave UV Light, one glossy, black acrylic light stand, a pack of 10 different fluorescent mineral rocks, and one pair of polycarbonate safety glasses.The high output shortwave and longwave UV lamp is easy and exciting to use. It takes 3 D batteries (not included) and can be held with the included stand or the attached arm strap. The filtered short wave fluorescent tube is located at the bottom of the lamp, lengthwise. The long wave is an LED located on the short side of the lamp. Batteries can be inserted from the opposite end of the lamp. Short wave measures 254nm, and the long wave measures 365nm.
The stand is made from glossy, black acrylic. This stand is easy to put together and is specially designed just for the light included in this set. The stand is great to use indoors while examining fluorescent minerals; its dark making it efficient for fluorescent mineral photography.
The 10 minerals included with the set measure approximately 1 to 2 inches or more in length. Most are nice sized chunks, but some run a little thinner than others. The specimens vary but commonly included minerals are: Willemite, Fluorite, Calcite, Chalcedony, and Hydrozincite. Fluorescence of minerals of the same type can vary depending on the location it was extracted from. For example, you may receive 3 different calcites; one may fluoresce blue under shortwave light while another fluoresces red or yellow. Examples of common minerals included are shown in the pictures. All mineral rocks are identified with a label and are bagged individually.
We include a pair safety glasses made of polycarbonate that filters 99.9 percent of harmful UV radiation. Wear safety glasses with each use of the lamp and avoid light on skin.
