Made in USA

Description

The NEW DEUCE Ultralight Backpacking Trowel is now made in three models - each different in thickness, size and weight - but all are crazy-lightweight and made of extremely strong US-made aerospace grade 7075-T6 aluminum.

#1 - .45oz - 6.5"x2.4" - for weight fanatics only - those willing to work with the ins and outs of their gear to get the most out of it (be sure to see the directions in the photo section)

#2 - .60oz - 6.8"x2.5" - the new and improved version of our incredibly popular Deuce of Spades, our original groundbreaking *ahem* trowel that was the first in the world that could be used upside down for difficult ground (see Advanced Techniques photo above).

#3 - .97oz - 8"x2.6" - our full-sized trowel - bigger and stronger, a real beast that digs and prys easily, fast and comfortably - even in difficult rocky ground. Yet it weighs a fraction of what other full sized trowels weigh.

New Improved Design

All new 2018 Deuces feature four teeth on the leading edge of the blade that are just right for slicing small roots as you run into them at the bottom of your hole and for making progress in hard clay (a dirt type that's vexing for anything but a pickaxe). The teeth are also FIELD MAINTAINABLE - you can resharpen them with a rock. Also new, the handle has small ripples to improve friction and grip.

About our Manufacturing

Please note that some colors and models are made in the US and some are made in Korea by DAC (the premier tent pole maker in the world BTW). The quality and lifetime guarantee is exactly the same regardless of where your Deuce is manufactured. A quick glance at the photo or the color name, or the last bullet point once you've clicked on a color, will tell you where that exact model/color you've selected is manufactured. At The TentLab, we include the manufacturing location because we pride ourselves on being 100% honest and transparent.

Description

The Tentlab Deuce of Spades backpacking trowel is a "simple" little thing we came up with a couple of years ago. It looks as self-explanatory as one can imagine. How much could there be to a backpacking trowel after all? This one is delightfully deceptive - you really have to use it for yourself to see how surprisingly light, effective and tough this trowel really is. It's unique, mind-bending stealth feature, is that you can use it handle-down for 4 TIMES the digging power in hard ground. Use the handle end for breaking up tough dirt and wheedling out rocks; then use the scoop end to pull the dirt out quickly and easily. The combination makes the Deuce out-dig every other trowel, stick, or stake hands down. Anyone who poops in the woods should have this baby in their pack! Okay, it's almost impossibly lightweight, what's the tradeoff? Very simple: some handle comfort. The Deuce is light because it's thin - so there's a balance to be struck between carrying it's weight for hours and hours, and how its edges feel against your hand for the few minutes a day you spend actually digging with it. With thousands of Deuces sold, we can honestly claim the balance is right (probably exactly where most backpackers would put it if they were designing it for themselves). It's fun hearing what else our customers do with it: it's a great shoehorn; it's a good sand stake; it's allowed in carryon luggage; it's handy for bear canister screws; you can open beer bottle with it (like that's not a core function - ha!). What else?
